Hallo. For today we have a very interesting technique to practice. It is technique based on shapes and curves brush stoking; the thing the Corel does very good. We will do it in Photoshop CS2. Moreover we will try to make some king of sense on our creation.

So... let's do it.

First thing we going to do here is to create 2document: 1000 x 1000px and the other one on the screenshot. We need the square one to create some brushes for further usage in the tutorial.

BUT! You will get a little bit different brushes in the support set (download UBIset_144.abr).

So let's start with making some brushes. I've done this triangle shape with a little bit of half tone brushes that I have. The selection you see is a selection done with a quick mask and a gradient meaning that the selection edge is smooth.

I really think that the zig zag filter will solve some of my problems concerning the too straightened sides.

Define the brush.

Here is my next bush: half painted, half twirled. I also used smooth quick mask to twirl the shape.

The next brush is a basic soft brush with roundness jitter lowered to about 8-10%.

And the closing brush is a brush that I really don't remember how I did it. It was probably done by a lot of warping of the first one.

So here we have our mini set on the bottom of the brush box.

Next step: the design.

Let's start making that design. Close the 1000x1000px document and switch to the other one. I will start my design with background. Fill the background with dark-orange.

Special

Effects

Create a couple of layers and fill them with a little bit lighted orange rounded gradients. Experiment with some color adjustments.

...add some texture: I'm really into that entire texture thing now. It is a very good way for realism. Oh yeah, I do know how do it with a mere brush. You still got to know how to imitate that texture with a mere brush or even a pencil. All that texture features in PS and other application will only save you some time, but you still got to know how it's done the "primitive" way - "it's good for the soul".

Special

Effects

A little bit more into orange using color dodging.

Special

Effects

For the next step we will make some foreground elements with brush usage that, we've created.

Create a round path: see that my path fill option is turned off.

Special

Effects

The really inconvenient thing about patch overlaying in Photoshop is that you got to set the brush parameters and diameters and even the size first, and then stroke that path. It is almost impossible to see the result you want from the first time. You got to press Ctrl+Z for several times to see a good result.

So chose a brush, and settings. I've lowered the roundness and set the spacing for my 1st brush.

Go to path menu and just click - stroke path

Do the same with the rest of the brushes. Just transform the path each time.

I like to give some glow to this one, so I'm going to use layer styles.

The 3rd brush:

As you can see I'm also switching between the colors each time.

Special

This time I like it simply white.

Some glow this time too.

And I think that is it for a quickie design and how to use stroke techniques tutorial. Hope you learned something from it. This is only an example how you can use these techniques.
