In this tutorial we will make a fast mate painting wallpaper. Matte painting is actually based on photo with different hand painted elements. So here I have some photos found in the internet.

Let's start.

We'll maybe use only one of them or combine 2 into a single collage. After looking several times I've actually decided to take only one photo. So I did.
Now the painting business: I really want to paint those clouds.

Start from midtones and dropping highlights and shadows.

I've also decided to change the tone of the ground and basically of all pictures.

Now I really think that one of the best brushes if you want to paint objects on a matte is basic brush with WET EDGES turned on.
So I'm starting to paint on my picture, on a new layer.

As you can see I'm flipping the image horizontally quite a lot of times.

Painting the clouds:

I've also dropping soft atmosphere layer from top down. New layer and do change the blending mode.

Next
thing that I'm doing is changing the horizon line: I'm erasing the snowy mountains. Instead of mountains I'm painting houses with wed edged brush.

To have more like painted look I have to pill the ground area with paint.

Crop the image for better composition.
Change the tone once again.

So now a little story telling:
First I want to highlight the houses with soft low opacity brush with blending mode set to overlay.

And the light ray coming from the clouds like alien thing or something.

And the story will be: the aliens taking humans in the night.

A little bit of color balance:

And we are ready here. I really like the colors, but I also don't like the thing that my image was saved with lowest quality. I still hope you got the idea and learned something.
