3D Extruded Text Effect
Build pop-out 3D lettering using duplicated layers, offset shadows, and perspective transforms — a classic technique that works in any Photoshop version.
Step 1: Set Up Text
Create 800×600px document. Type bold text at 100pt on a mid-tone background (#4a5568).
Step 2: Duplicate for Depth
Duplicate the text layer 8 times (Ctrl+J repeatedly). Select all duplicates.
Step 3: Offset Each Layer
Nudge each duplicate 1px down and 1px right using arrow keys, starting from bottom layer.
Merge bottom 7 layers into one "Extrusion" group.
Step 4: Color the Extrusion
Set extrusion fill color to dark shade (#1a1a2e). Add Gradient Overlay from dark to slightly lighter.
Step 5: Add Face Layer
Top text layer is the face. Apply lighter color (#e8e8f0) with subtle Inner Shadow.
Step 6: Perspective Transform
Select all layers, Ctrl+T, hold Ctrl and drag top corners inward for slight perspective.
Step 7: Ground Shadow
New layer below all. Paint soft black ellipse, Gaussian Blur 20px, Opacity 40%.
