Transform any photograph into a frozen, ice-cracked scene using texture overlays, layer masks, and color adjustments. Dramatic effect for winter-themed designs.

Step 1: Prepare Base Image

Open your photo. Duplicate layer. Image > Adjustments > Desaturate the duplicate. Boost contrast with Levels (Input: 30, 1.0, 220).

Step 2: Apply Ice Texture

Import an ice crack texture PNG with transparency. Place above photo, scale to cover. Set blending mode to Screen or Overlay. Adjust opacity to taste (60–80%).

Step 3: Cool Color Grade

Add Color Balance: Cyan/Red +20 toward Cyan in midtones and shadows. Add Photo Filter: Cooling Filter (80) at 40%.

Step 4: Mask and Blend

Add layer mask to texture. Use soft black brush to hide cracks from faces or focal subjects. Keep cracks on background and edges for realism.

Step 5: Frost Overlay

Create white-to-transparent radial gradient on new layer. Set to Soft Light 50%. Add noise at 2% for frost grain. Reduce overall saturation by -20 with Hue/Saturation.
